Trump Under oath, just think about that for a second. Did you feel reality distort for a moment? This is why Mueller should run from this. Don’t even bother to try to entrap Trump, just make a case if there is one with other witnesses. Trump under oath will eviscerate and exaggerate, all while adding copious facts and opinions Mueller will not want a jury hearing. In contrast President Clinton parsed and quibbled when he was questioned by his witch-hunt. But this is not Trump’s style, he’s a showman, he will charge right into the fight and while he may not necessarily be lying by the time he is done nobody will believe anything criminal happened because he will have taken them on a rambling magic carpet ride. “What the definition of is is?” Please! By the time Trump is finished testifying he will have sold more than half of the Grand Jury condos and the other half steaks.
Beside Mueller long ago lost any major prosecution he ever hoped to have do to the FBI’s incompetence and perhaps corruption. To make matter worse Mueller’s own fingerprints are all over what may be a house of cards waiting to fall. He would be better served cooking all the small fish he can catch.
About Mueller, republican Trump defenders like to question his integrity -after all he hired so many democrat partisans and Washington insiders- which is another reason he’ll have trouble prosecuting anybody but this is not the point. His team was infamous because of their own conduct long before they darkened his door. So how did he end up with this rogues gallery? I don’t believe he was salivating waiting for his (BFF) Comely to be fired and the “Boy Wonder” Rosenstein to put the “Fellowship of the Rings” secret agenda back on track. What I believe happened is Mueller gets the nod and then has to pick a team, he’s retired not really ready to jump right into the game again so he calls people in the know in Washington DC for recommendations, which is where he went wrong. Even if the public perception of his crack team had not unraveled as it has, Trump as sure as the press corps over reacts would be able to portray any prosecutors as part of the Swamp™. I think Mueller trusted people to give him a good steer on talent and he got a lot of baggage for his trouble. To Mueller’s credit he did fire Clinton era horn-dog Peter Strzok and his floozy, but not before both irrevocably tainted his investigation. And I’ll bet both of them came highly recommended as well.
Mueller has already lost this battle if he was ever in it. We do not know if he has a dog in the fight or if he was convenient tool at hand to try to bludgeon a newly minted President. A lot of powerful people who do not like Trump foisted their ambitions upon Mueller. As a prosecutor the best charge he might be able to procure against “the Donald” would be a gotcha charge which will not work to rid us of this troublesome president. It would be an uphill political fight in a booming economy. Trump has more than enough to railroad the top brass of the FBI and DOJ (on things they actually did) all the while dragging his predecessor President Barack FISA Warrant Dronestrike Obama through the mud for allowing it to happen.
On the other hand if Mueller really wants to go out doing the nation a solid he should pursue the Manafort angle and clean up Washington from the plague foreign lobbyist like Clinton henchmen the Podesta twins. Which is at the heart of the supposed collusion investigation, foreign actors influencing American policy and politicians.
For decades the nation’s capital has been rife with politicians and former political lackeys in the pockets of big industry and foreign interests who come back to the capital to ply their new trade on their former colleges. At the highest vestiges of power the official policy is to look the other way while holding out a welcoming hand to receive the graft. If Muller can clean this up he might just be the hero we needed.
