Enough time has passed for the Disney Corporation to give up their offensive action building up the malformed Last Jedi<\/em>. Unfortunately the backlash to this film has claimed its first victim, Solo<\/em>, the stand alone origins story for Han Solo (a man who always shot first). Which in my opinion is a better movie than the last two Star Wars<\/strong> family entries however it is part of the Star Wars<\/strong> machine thus subject to the same fate. Many offer theories to explain this like Star Wars<\/strong> fatigue, nonsense. If such a thing were possible why then do the Marvel movies continue to mint money? Is Marvel unique property in Hollywood? Why would they be? Simply put is the Marvel movies are, flawed to be sure, yet primarily well-crafted telling compelling coherent stories. The restarted Star Wars<\/strong> series took an odd approach to begin with,\u00a0 they spent years craft a way to reintroduce the series then stomp on the accelerator to try to make the series blossom into a never ending spin off bonanza. \u00a0Disney going into this endeavor knew the fans had little tolerance for the hijinks of former proprietor George Lucas.<\/p>\n

The man was at one time revered as a god was quickly found to have feet of clay once he was on his own producing his prequels without the help of the collaboration which established the Star Wars<\/strong> phenomenon. While successful the prequels never found the success of the original trilogy, all the while diehard fans were hoping beyond hope for George to pull off a triumphant return as the ultimate story teller. \u00a0This was not to be and less than a decade later after another fan revolt this time over his tinkering with the films for another special edition George decided he had enough selling the franchise to the evil empire, er, I mean the loving hands of a new caretaker. The house of Mouse.<\/p>\n

Disney whether through contractual obligation form Lucas (and his best buddy Spielberg) or perhaps misplaced trust hires Kathleen Kennedy to shepherd the restarted series. Ms Kennedy was a lifelong collaborator of Lucas and Spielberg, she might have been a safe choice to safe guard the integrity of the series however it now appears her own biases have crippled the series. \u00a0Until now her missteps have had the benefit of being successful at the Box office, while making diminishing returns were more than enough for the Disney to keep giving her free reign. At this moment the Disney studio heads are trying to figure how serious this problem is, this is their Justice League<\/em>, like Warner Brothers they ignored the signs of trouble going full steam ahead with sequel movies directly into the path of an iceberg.<\/p>\n

To right this ship Disney actually has a very easy way of doing it, erase Last Jedi<\/em>. Sure that can\u2019t really be done, however to fix the storyline make it a force projection of what could be from before Rey lands in the often boosted Falcon to meet Jedi Master Luke, who will actually be a proper Jedi Master this time around. Also make episode ten a two part chapter allowing J.J the time to craft a fulfilling chapter to please most of the fans. Disney took time to carefully plan out the Force Awakens, again a flawed movie many rightly compare to a re-tread of the original trilogy, however it worked re-establishing the movie series. Trouble came when upon this success Disney (and Kennedy) thought they had room to experiment pushing ill contrived deadlines at the cost of the finished product. There were so many problems with the spinoff movies and the direct sequel to the Force Awakens Disney would have been smart to pump the brakes allowing some more time to get the finished product right rather than on time.<\/p>\n

Alas this did not happen and we are where we are, Solo<\/em> a mostly decent movie which feels like a Star Wars<\/strong> universe movie is taking the hit for the team. The tremor Disney felt when Last Jedi<\/em> failed to preformed is continuing, they took the fan base for granted. Well Disney ignored them as is the popular Hollywood theory for creative types who hate to be criticized, ignore the annoying fans while continuing on their plotted out course assuming the franchise would be continue to be supported no matter what manner of drivel they churned out. It\u2019s a new era fans now have a voice that must be reckoned with. Unfortunately Hollywood does not see this yet, when hiccups like these happen they assume the customer is always wrong and some other deciding factor is the real root cause. Noticeably a root cause which absolves most of those involve in perpetrating the cinematic crimes of wrong doing. Like theories of over saturation, or badly time releases and poorly marketed movies. Sure there is some kernel of truth at the heart of those theories however the biggest determiner of success and failure in today marketplace is the quality of their product. How satisfying the product is to the audience paying for the privilege of being entertained. Until now Hollywood rightly assumed the customer would continue to pay them for the privilege no matter the quality of the product and big series were safe from repercussions. Apparently the audience have evolved to take it or leave it, and somehow have become self-aware that their patronage makes a difference.<\/p>\n
